Moriah is Back from Training!

Posted on April 19, 2017 by Blaine Kennels

We are so proud of Moriah! We knew that she would not only complete the training with Cesar Millan, but would also be a class standout. We were right. She made friends with Cesar, her training mates, and the animals (that is right…all of the animals). Moriah also did an amazing job of photo journaling her experience.

Our hope was that Moriah would learn from one of the best in the industry and bring it home to our staff and clients. If you know our staff, you know that they are dedicated to our dogs and their training. The training is called Fundamentals of Dog Behavior. It takes a holistic approach to dog training and focuses on understanding each dog’s cues and triggers. By learning to understand triggers, we will be able to customize our training to each and every dog (and their owners). Moriah has already begun training our trainers with what she has learned. It is our mission to continually add quality and value to our training programs at Blaine Kennels. Moriah, along with our amazing staff is helping us do just that.

We hope you enjoy Moriah’s photo journal below!

From Moriah ~

This was the best week of my life! I learned that energy is everything. I learned how to be a calm and confident pack leader. A lot of the things Theresa has told me (at Blaine Kennels) in the past, clicked when I was going through the training. I am thoroughly enjoying applying the techniques I’ve learned and applying them to the dogs I work with every day.

Cesar and Moriah

I asked Cesar if he would take a selfie with me and he happily agreed. We decided to do one happy one and one silly one. I can’t even put into words how enchanting Cesar’s energy is. If he wasn’t The Dog Whisperer, I think that he would make a pretty good comedian. I can only hope that one day I’ll be as good of a dog trainer as him.

I got a hug from Cesar…a few times. I felt honored when he pulled me aside and actually gave me a leash as a reminder of everything I had learned. I didn’t cry until I walked away. Now, I always carry that leash with me. It’s an inspiration and reminder of everything I learned and experienced. If I could, I’d play that week on repeat forever.

The Dog Psychology Center

I’ve seen it on television, but to there was absolutely wonderful. This is truly my favorite place in the world.

Cesar Millan Dog Psychology Center

The view is absolutely beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like it. Cesar puts everything on his land, in a specific spot, for a reason. It was really cool to hear him talk about it.

The angel there is where Cesar is going to build a memorial for dogs that pass away. He explained this to me as we walked on our pack walk together.

I thought this picture was just really cool. The scenery is beautiful. I hope one day I will get to go back. I’ve never felt more at ease with myself and the dogs there.

The Cast of Characters

This is Marty. He was the first to say hi to me in the morning. He loves carrots and getting his ears scratched. I really enjoyed meeting him.  I really miss him. I’m going to get a donkey one day because of him!

Marty

Meet Lorenzo. He’s a character. He helped teach us about boundaries and how to better establish them. He’s definitely a ladies’ man. He has a girlfriend on the ranch. Her name is Tina. They make quite the couple.

Lorenzo

This is Zeus. He was a volunteer dog for the pack walks. He’s very sensitive and very sweet. My friend, Tamara, that I met at training, fell in love with this kid. I took the picture, so she would always have something to remember him by.

Cesar Millan Training

Bunelo. It took me a couple days to pronounce this kid’s name. He came all the way from Columbia. His name represents a type of food there. We all thought he should have a mohawk – so we gave him one!

Check out Ferris. He reminded me of Finn in a way. His spirit was so wonderful. He was one of my favorites at the ranch. He has no idea he is any different than the other dogs and he loves his pack walks.

Cesar Millan

This kiddo is OBSESSED with Cesar. He is a chunky little buddy. You can tell how fond Cesar is of him by the way the two interact. He even worked his way into our graduation photos. He loves having his picture taken.

Dog Training

This beauty is named Sakari. She loves to give high fives. She makes me smile when I think about her. I miss her.

This was our last pack walk on the last day at the DPC. This place changed my life in so many ways. It has been interesting getting settled back into the real world.

This my own little pack I made while I was there. On the right is Tamara. She’s my Aussie girl, as she comes from Australia. The other girl is named Keri. Together, we make Moriah Keri. There is Sakari, again. She really helped me when I was missing my own dogs. She’s the sweetest Malamute I’ve ever met – next to Juneau, of course. I told Sakari all about you, buddy. ;)

SUCCESS!!!

I will be framing this and putting it on my bedroom wall. I am so proud of myself and it is the most amazing feeling in the world to have graduated from Fundamentals one.

A Little Bit About Moriah…

We are so happy for Moriah, as she heads off to the Cesar Millan dog training in California. We thought it would be fun to hear her story, so we asked her to share a little bit about herself. We were not surprised to find out that Moriah has always loved dogs, as she is a natural when it comes to training.

Have you always loved dogs?

Yes, I’ve been around dogs since the day I was born. When I was little, I trained my rat terrier, Sammy, to climb to the top of the bunk beds (my sister & I shared a room) and back down. I also trained him how to go up & down the slides on the playground. I thought I was so cool because all the kids loved watching Sammy work for me.

Did you have dogs growing up?

Yes, dogs have been a part of my entire life. We had a German Shepherd /Wolf hybrid named Shelby, when I was really little. She was named after a town in Shelby, Iowa. We adopted a Rat Terrier puppy named Scooter. He was an awesome soccer player. We enjoyed the Rat Terrier breed so much that we ended up adopting Sammy (the one who can climb ladders and slide down slides) for a birthday present for me. He’s almost 17 now.  I ended up adopting a little Yellow Lab puppy when my best friend’s dog had puppies, which was also a birthday present. I got the pick of the litter. His name is Remington and he is going to be 8 years old in May. I also have my little Yorkiepoo named Bentley. He’s my little anxiety dog. I bring him with me everywhere. Things don’t seem as scary when he’s with me. And then there is Ellas. I ended up rescuing Ella (who has changed my life in so many ways). I can’t express how thankful I am to have her.

How long have you worked at Blaine Kennels?

I’ve been working at Blaine Kennels for about 3 years.

Do you have a special dog at Blaine Kennels that you have connected with while you have worked there?

Yes, Petey. He was a rescue from The Great Pyrenees Rescue. His previous owner did not treat him very well. He came to us in pretty rough shape. He is now living a very happy life. I will never, ever forget Petey.

When were you asked to go to the Caesar Milan dog training event?

I was asked about a week ago. I’m still in shock!

Were you excited when you found out?

I was beyond excited when I found out. Cesar Millan has been my idol since I was a little girl. When I was little, I told everyone that if I ever got cancer, my dying wish would be to meet and work with Cesar Millan for a day. I can’t believe my dream is coming true. Thank you, Jackie & Thomas. Dreams do come true!!

What are you most excited about?

I’m most excited about the fact that I am going to come back from this with more knowledge & information. I will have the experience to understand & balance a wider variety of the dogs. I am also excited to become a better trainer than the one I am today. Training is my life, my passion, and my soul. I’m so truly blessed for this opportunity.

Good luck, Moriah!!! We can’t wait to hear about her adventures at the Cesar Millan dog training in California. Take lots of pictures for us!!
