Retrievers/Flushers
The upland bird hunting dogs are taught to trail, hunt close, quarter on command, flush and retrieve to hand. The waterfowl dogs are taught to be steady. That means whether you are in a blind, a boat, or on shore your dog will sit and stay while you are shooting and will not leave to retrieve your ducks until you give it permission to go.

Pointing Dogs
The pointing breeds are taught to hunt close, quarter on command, be staunch on point and retrieve to hand.All dogs are trained with e-training collars. This is a gun-dog training center and most of the training is done with birds, not dummies. Special emphasis is placed on teaching dogs not to chase birds you miss, and birds you don't shoot at.

Dale Westerberg is one of the top gun dog trainers in Minnesota. He works primarily from referrals of his many happy customers. Dale isn’t happy unless you are satisfied, ask any of his customers. Hello my name is Gregg Johnson with 2 GG's. I'm responsible for getting the gun dogs trained here at Blaine Kennels. I have spent money to learn from other professional dog trainers and worked at another kennel. I've learned the gentle but firm touch from Dale Westerberg (owner) and find it far superior to any other methods I have learned.

I joined Blaine Kennels in July of 2004. I have had 20 years experience training dogs, specifically hunting dogs. I have been involved in field trials, hunt tests and have experience in various methods of force training.

I own two black lab males, Ace is 10 years old and Fronk is a year and half. My passion is ruffed grouse hunting in Northern Minnesota and spend as much time as possible in the woods. I reside in Blaine with my wife Kathy and I have found a 2nd home here at Blaine Kennels with the Westerbergs. Call us anytime 763-786-3616.
